Kaitlyn + Ryan – Bayahibe, Dominican Republic Wedding

October 2019

Kaitlyn + Ryan’s plan wasn’t always to celebrate their wedding in the Dominican. When they initially booked with me, their plan was to have a wedding close to home in Wisconsin.

“Hi Breeanna!

So the more Ryan and I talk about the wedding and all that the more we realize a huge wedding isn’t for us. I think we have decided to have a small destination wedding with only our parents and siblings…”

Shortly after this email came through, K + R narrowed down their dream wedding location to the Dominican!

To say I was thrilled to have the opportunity to explore this area of the world with a down-to-earth couple would be an understatement.

The vibe of the day was laid back and fun and decor sported hints of boho.

Some of my favorite details are Kaitlyn’s wooden hanger, Ryan’s wooden watch and his floral pocket square/tie combo. I’m not sure that R’s dad ever came around on the floral print, but his aversion to seeing floral print on his son gave me a good laugh.

Seeing little critters like the lizard pictured above and crab below remind me how unique destination weddings really are.

When I arrived that morning, it was just Kaitlyn in the room with her sister, mom and future MIL.

I love these shots of her doing her mother’s makeup and can only hope that they’ll be treasured for many years.

Socks can be a fun way to tie in the theme of your wedding. R’s fancy footwear was perfect for their Dominican wedding!

What could be better than a beachside dinner complete with a bar, live music and dance floor?!

While we were taking photos on the beach, the resort was doing a demonstration on how to make these sweet pineapple drinks.

That’s when I decided that you can’t have a destination wedding without drinking out of a pineapple. Similarly, the only exception to this rule is if you choose to drink out of a coconut instead.

My night ended with the whole wedding out on the dance floor to bust a move together.

Are you itching to see more from this destination wedding?
